Space City Pediatric Dentistry
Space City Pediatric Dentistry has the training, the experience, the knowledge, and the willingness to see and treat children with special needs. Special needs patients may be those with developmental or genetic conditions and/or those with complex medical health histories. A dental home is the establishment of an ongoing relationship between a dentist, a patient, and their family. This relationship can start as early as 6 months of age and includes all aspects of oral health care. Just as a pediatrician is a specialist who cares for your child’s medical needs, a pediatric dentist is a specialist who cares for your child’s oral health and dental needs. In order to be licensed as a pediatric dentist an individual must complete an additional two years of advanced training beyond dental school. These additional two years are spent working exclusively with children, many of whom have special needs. A pediatric dentist further defines themself within their specialty by obtaining board certification status. This status demonstrates that a pediatric dentist has voluntarily undergone a rigorous examination process. Earning board certification status means that a pediatric dentist is knowledgeable, skillful, and experienced within their specialty. At our office, a patient’s dental care is provided in a thoughtful, careful, and ethical manner. We take into account the best interests of our patients and their families.
Space City Pediatric Dentistry is uniquely qualified to care for and treat a wide variety of patients. Some of the more common special needs patients we see include:
We put our patients’ needs first by being as accommodating as possible to those with needs. We take extra steps to make them feel comfortable in our office. Whether turning down the lighting or providing sunglasses or ear plugs for those with sensory issues, our goal is to make your child feel as calm and comfortable as possible.
Sedation dentistry is another popular option for those with special needs. We offer options to help your child stay calm or sleep throughout their visit. For more information on sedation dentistry options, you can view our sedation options or contact our office with any questions you may have.
