April is National Facial Protection Month. We want to remind you that organized sports and recreational activities your child may participate in can put them at high risk for head and mouth injuries. Please take the necessary precautions when your child is participating in recreational and organized sports by wearing a protective mouthguard.
Here are some startling facts about sports related injuries in children and teens(www.stopsportsinjuries.org):
- More than 3.5 million kids under age 14 receive medical treatment for sports injuries each year.
- Children ages 5 to 14 account for nearly 40% of all sports-related injuries treated in hospitals
- Although 62% of organized sports-related injuries occur during practice, one-third of parents do not have their children take the same safety precautions at practice that they would during a game.
- According to the CDC, more than half of all sports injuries in children are preventable.
Don’t put your child’s smile in danger! Make sure they have a mouthguard for their active lifestyle.
